One of the most expected events of the summer in Cerreto Guidi has come back: La Notte d’Isabella (Isabella’s Night), and on Sunday 1st July.

In these two special and evocative evenings Cerreto Guidi will return once again to the atmospheres and customs of the sixteenth century.

This year it is the eighth edition of this fascinating historical re-enactment, organized by the “Buontalenti” Natural Shopping Center Association, in collaboration with the Municipality of Cerreto Guidi, the Pro Loco, the Contrade and the patronage of the Region of Tuscany.

Isabella’s Night has quickly become an important event, which recalls the traditions of Cerreto Guidi. The re-enactment is the result of a careful and accurate historical reconstruction of settings and customs at the time. For two days the village will plunge into the Renaissance going back in time returning to 1576 and the events referred to Isabella de’Medici, daughter of Grand Duke Cosimo I, which are rebuilt until her death and still shrouded in mystery, occurred exactly in Cerreto Guidi on 16th July of that year interlacing stories and popular legends handed down for centuries.

So, the magic which always excite visitors will be repeated. The village and its inhabitants will go back in time, to the splendor of the Renaissance, when the Medici family went to the beautiful Villa of Cerreto to dedicate themselves to the hunting, one of their favourite activities, and in its honor there were luxurious celebrations.

Wandering through the streets of the village you can be present at the wonderful birds of prey free flight demonstrations by experienced falconers or you can meet duels of fierce swordsmen. On the one hand, you can linger to observe the accuracy of the crossbow shooters and on the other hand, of the archers one. You will meet artists, jesters, story-tellers, alchemists and fire-eaters. There will be also musicians and flag throwers of the contrade (quarters) of the Palio del Cerro, which exactly this year celebrates fifty years old. And when your hunger or thirst are increasing you can stop in one of the pubs. And then in front of the stairs of Buontalenti poetic improvisations, music and dances in honor of Isabella de ‘Medici.

The inauguration of Isabella’s Night, in the presence of the authorities, will officially take place on Saturday 30th June 2018 at 5.30 pm in Vittorio Emanuele II Square. The party will last until midnight. Then it will be repeated on Sunday from 5.00 pm to 12.00 pm.

The entrance includes a ticket of 5.00 euros except for all minors from 0 to 18 who have free access to the event. Of course, they won’t pay any ticket the residents of the city center (Roma Street, Santi Saccenti Street, Della Libertà Street, Del Mortaio Street, Guidi Street, Vittorio Veneto Street-party area, Ponti Medicei Street, dei Fossi Street-party area, Sdrucciolo Street, Umberto I Square, Vittorio Emanuele II Square).

Among the initiatives included within the Isabella’s Night, is to be marked the fifth edition of “Una foto per Isabella”(“A photo for Isabella”), the photography content created with the purpose to tell through the images, the atmospheres and mysteries of Cerreto Guidi in the 16th century (for more information and specific regulation www.lanottedisabella.it). Moreover, to remember that the Villa Medicea  UNESCO World Heritage Site, during the two days of the event will be open for free (on Saturday 30th June from 9.00 am to 10 pm, on Sunday 1st July from 10.00 am to 11.00 pm).
